Retinitis Pigmentosa

My wife is of 51. I think she suffers by this disease some 15 years before. I consulted top doctors of my city Lucknow,India. They tell me that this is the case of RP. I take her to Madras,India and consulted eye specialists of Sankara Netralaya where they said this may be hereditery. She knows that neither her mother,her maternal grand mother nor her father,her grand father had has the disease. But she gradually lost her vision. I came to know from a magazine or a website that some research work on this matter has been done. Please advise me in the matter.
