My 27 month old daughter was diagnosed with a refractive error in one eye today. It was explained that one eye is slightly larger than the other and it is possible that the condition will rectify itself as she grows. My doctor said that he could fit her for glasses to correct the problem but once she begins wearing glasses she will be unable to go without them. She is to see him again in 3 months to see how she is doing. I first noticed her condition approx 4-6 months ago. It is only occasional and I notice it primarily when she is watching tv. If the refractive error is moderate, it is a good idea to correct it early. This will help the eye see better and hopefully prevent amblyopia (see that section) or a turned eye. She will not doubt need to keep wearing the glasses and a check up every few months is a good idea.
