Pediatric Macular Degeneration / Stargardt's

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun May 19, 2002 9:01 pm

Hello - the 4-year-old son of a close friend was evaluated today and was detected as having a "visual processing disorder" that was described as affecting only the processing of that which he looks at with his central vision (directly in front of him). I have been researching onlne and am concerned about Stargardt's, although it appears to present later than 4 years old. The doctor who evaluated him is a child psychologist Her opinion was that it is not a visual problem, but a neurological processing one. In your opinion, could Stargardt's be a concern, and if so, what would be the recommendation? Thank you!

If the child has not already had a comprehensive eye exam, they should to rule out any vision problem. Once that is ruled out, then the cause may be a processing one.
