iridotomy

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Apr 12, 2002 11:15 pm

I am monocular, 44yr old F, I have had 2 consecutive IOP readings of 21. Dx is angle closure glaucoma. No family hx of glaucoma, no active symptoms. Dr. recomended iridotomy be done this Thursday. Why would Dr. go directly to iridotomy without ever trying meds?

Medicines are not the treatment for angle closure. Angle closure is anatomic - that means some structure in your eye is blocking or could block the "drain". So, iridotomies open another pathway for the fluid in your eye. It's a simple procedure and extremely effective. It's like preventative medicine. Drops are the treatment of choice in open angle glaucoma.

Thanks, that makes sense.
